The difficult second album. Well actually as far as my albums go this one was probably fairly easy, perhaps that's because I didn't have kids or own a house at the time. Mostly recorded in Christchurch City, my city of residence from 2003 - 2005. I remember joking that I was going to call the album 'scraping the bottom of the barrel' since it kind of felt like I'd just thrown a few odds and ends together whereas the previous album had felt like a more purposeful effort. It would seem though, that throwing odds and ends together is now how I make albums. As well as a small run of CD copies, I had a handful of copies (about 20) cut on lathe records by Peter King of King Records Worldwide. The records are cut on clear polycarbonate on a series of 4 old cutting lathes, they look really cool. I went and picked the records up in person from his place in Mt Sommers. We arrived a bit early, after a short wait he turned up in a yellow mustang which I've heard was part payment for a large run of Beastie Boys 7"s he did some years back. He told me it took him three months to complete the run and by the end of it his wife had left. Anyway, he showed me around the plant and around the large new 'party room' he was building, essentially a large barn with a pool in it built with the same polycarbonate he uses to make records with. He was a really nice guy, and the records are cool.
