Ride on Estrada
|
The first offering from Christchurch indie rock underdogs Ride on Estrada. Recorded on my trustee old 8 track reel to reel in our little house in Addington. We set up all our gear in the house with amps, drums etc in various rooms and recorded over the weekend while my partner very kindly found things to do elsewhere, something I couldn't possibly imagine doing now that most of our house is occupied with toys, children's books and laundry. The song she dreams of trailer parks was selected by local student radio station RDU to be the first track on a compilation album they were putting together at the time. I thought this was great until I found out the compilation was called 'Some NZ Music is Shit', Ummmm, thanks guys, thanks heaps. Actually the premise of the album is that some NZ Music is shit (very true) and we shouldn't champion it purely out of patriotism, we should be free to judge it and tell it fuck off if need be. But some NZ Music (like that on the compilation) is in fact not shit........ aahh fuck it was ages ago, it sounded convincing the way they said it. Anyway, this is the first album I was part of creating that actually involved a band rather than one person and a bunch of toys pretending to be a band. Received a nice, encouraging review which was cool, even if it did have a slight tone of a school teacher saying 'Well done guys, you tried really hard.'
Here is a cool video which Ashley made for the track Hummer
